Overview

The Automated Operator is a high-level machine operator capable of operating automated equipment. This role carries additional responsibilities than of its junior role, Operator 1, but will not require personnel to operate within sterile areas as do the Gown Qualified Operators. The Automated Operator is directly responsible for their assigned machine, including preparing for production, production efficiency, and closeout of production. This role is also responsible for documentation, escalation of issues, and coaching and directing personnel supporting their assigned machine.

 

The Automated Operator reports directly to the shift/area Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor and will also work directly with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Operational Excellence support.

Responsibilities

• Prepare machines for production utilizing the prescribed batch records.
• Verify materials prior to use following the applicable standard operating procedures (SOP).
• Maintain good production efficiency by ensuring materials are available and material levels are maintained within the machine for continuous operation.
• Maintain good production efficiency through minor machine adjustments compliant with validated ranges.
• Must direct personnel assigned to support machine. For example, observe and direct personnel assigned to clean and clear the machine. Ensure LOTO is performed prior to allowing support personnel to begin assigned tasks.
• Work with support groups and appropriately escalate issues when poor efficiency is observed.
• Evaluate and report machine efficiency routinely including downtime, throughput and reject rates.
• Perform in process verifications and challenges as needed.
• Perform closeout from production including material returns, product and component reconciliations, line clean and clearance, and closeout batch record review.
• Identify and escalate Quality related issues.
• Perform supporting documentation as needed.
• Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized manufacturing area to support 5S project sustainability.
• Tasks are performed in accordance with applicable safety guidelines, as well as in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
• Can be assigned to perform functions of lower level operator and/or group lead as needed when not assigned to an automated machine.

Qualifications

One of the following 3 scenarios is required to be considered for the role of an Automated Operator:
2 years of relevant experience + High School Diploma
1 years of relevant experience + Associate’s Degree
0 prior relevant experience + Bachelor’s Degree

 

Relevant Experience Considerations:

Relevant experience is defined by one or more of the following:
• Previous experience operating manufacturing equipment
• Documentation in a manufacturing environment
• Military leadership, logistics, mechanical experience, and/or training comparable to a manufacturing environment
• Trade school or work experience in some construction trades.

 

  • Must be able to demonstrate competency of equipment and relevant documentation.
  • Must be able to verbally direct others assigned to support assigned machine.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and can assist others while coordinating line activities
